Egg Donation Questions

It is easy to become overwhelmed with questions regarding egg donations, but not with Dr. Miller here to guide you!  Here are some of the most commonly asked questions about egg donation:

  • What is an egg donor?  An egg donor has her eggs retrieved so that individuals and couples can attempt to have a child.  When a woman cannot use her own eggs as a viable option, egg donors can step in to donate eggs.
  • Are egg donors screened?  All egg donors are screened for communicable and hereditary diseases.
  • What information can I receive about a potential donor?  A wide array of information is available regarding potential egg donors.  Information about the egg donor’s education, ethnicity, and interests is available to you.
  • How is the recipient uterus readied for the egg donation process?  The egg donor is cycled with fertility hormones, which allows for the development of multiple eggs. A donor egg is retrieved and fertilized with the sperm of a donor or partner.
  • When can you find out if you are pregnant?  A pregnancy test is obtained two weeks after the embryo transfer.  At this time, we can analyze to see if you are pregnant.
